Brentford hosts Man United on September 27, 2025. Both teams are in desperate need of points, but for different reasons.
United fans remember last season's 4-3 defeat, in a high-scoring match that featured a rather poor performance from the Red Devils. Surprisingly, Brentford has the advantage over United when playing at home, with two wins, one draw, and one defeat. This shows that United won't have an easy match at all, even if they are coming off an important 2-1 victory against Chelsea in the last round.
Brentford was defeated by Fulham (away, 1-3) in their last match, and they now sit in 17th place in the table with only four points. It's not exactly a dangerous position (yet), but for a small team, it's something to avoid as much as possible.United isn't sitting too high in the table either, in 11th place with only 7 points — a start to the season that is (once again) not at all to the fans' liking. It's worth noting that Man Utd has a negative goal difference, which shows us that the defense isn't doing its job too well. For example, of all four teams with 7 points, only they and Leeds have a negative goal difference.
We said both teams need points, but it seems United needs them more. The lack of performance that fans were used to has started to become a habit, a normal thing. The EFL Cup defeat to Grimsby (on penalties) shows us that the team is not in a good place at all. The victory against Chelsea might have raised the Red Devils' morale. However, inconsistency is the name of the game right now at Man United.Brentford has had a better run in the EFL Cup so far than in the Premier League. They managed to eliminate Bournemouth and Aston Villa. In the league, however, they have not yet managed an away victory, and at home, they have only one win and one draw from five matches. A bit low and somewhat worrying for "The Bees." A slide towards the red zone is not out of the question. In terms of squad quality, Man United is clearly above Brentford, which however has some in-form players, such as Igor Thiago (4 goals). If we consider that United has conceded 8 goals so far, and Brentford 10, we can say that both teams will score. As for the winner, it's more difficult: a balanced prediction would be a draw or a Manchester United victory. Therefore, the most likely score would be 2-2 or 2-3. But predicting the correct score is a difficult and risky thing, so we'll stick with the prediction of a draw or a Man Utd win.
